my personal tarànto is a show about Taranto which never mentions either the city or its big steel industry, Ilva, and makes mussels fly. There are a woman/girl and a man/boy, who are nameless, the setting is dystopian, the colours are intermediate and there is smoke everywhere. The different accent of the word “tarànto” gives the real place a new meaning: “living in toxic places”. This perspective embodies a constant shifting between the inner and the outer, both voluntary and involuntary changes, an exit that is self-forced, vision and distortion.
‘It would be necessary to be everywhere, to run off to many places and put yourself in one of those… how are they called? And throw yourself, go and meet everyone.’
BIOGRAPHY
Isabella Mongelli, performer and visual artist, interested in developing her own language, has produced different types of shows and performances: ‘Irina PKS’ ‘My personal tarànto’, ‘Lido Azzurro’, ‘Frankie’ and ‘Offseason’. She has collaborated with Xing, Via Negativa, Fondazione Pino Pascali, Projet in Situ, Cosimo Terlizzi. Interested in simple actions inside complex thematic areas, she uses irony and continuous diversions to guide the public towards unknown emotions.
