SHORT THEATRE 8. Democrazia della felicità
Nel 2013 Short Theatre pianta un’altra bandiera. Si ricostituisce così un territorio con confini economici e ambientali imposti, ma che ogni anno viene ripopolato offrendosi come residenza temporanea e condivisa a percorsi artistici molto diversi tra loro per forme e biografie.
Quest’anno aumenta la presenza di artisti internazionali emergenti e non, grazie alla complicità di network europei e istituti culturali; prosegue il sostegno a giovani artisti italiani e l’attenzione ai percorsi più consolidati; si rinnova lo sguardo sulla drammaturgia contemporanea e le sperimentazioni delle scritture sceniche.
Gli spettacoli, gli artisti e le compagnie, disegnano un territorio la cui geografia è quotidianamente arricchita da laboratori e percorsi di formazione, djset e concerti, illustrazioni e video, incontri e conversazioni di approfondimento e sconfinamento.
Short Theatre non intende rappresentare una generazione o una tendenza, ma prova a raccontare un’idea della scena, costituendo una possibilità di contrattazione di nuovi limiti artistici e relazionali, ancora e sempre valicabili.
Ora, qui: a cosa serve un festival?
Tutto parte dallo Stato. Lo Stato in cui viviamo. Lo stato in cui siamo. Lo stato in cui lo Stato ci fa vivere. Lo Stato in cui, e per cui, noi continuiamo a vivere in questo stato. E' solo un gioco di parole? Allora dobbiamo imparare a giocare a un nuovo modo di stare. Pensare uno Stato che non c’è. Fondarne uno, temporaneo, di cui patteggiare le regole momentanee. E spostarsi di continuo, stare nello Stato per andare, non per rimanere. Contraddire lo stato attuale, restando in questo Stato. Pensieri che possono descrivere anche l’ambizione di un festival: fare della debolezza una forza, per attraversare lo Stato, andandogli oltre, senza andarsene via. Creare uno Stato dove la comunità che lo abita possa contrattarne regole e forme di vita, personali ed artistiche: dove non ci si riconosce per costituzione ma ci si incontra per conoscere, e dove la comunità stessa, legiferante e vivente, possa avanzare per capire. Mettersi da parte per fare spazio. Occuparlo tutto per moltiplicarlo. Non vogliamo coltivare un’utopia. Non possiamo permettercelo. Vogliamo stare qui, ora, ridefinendo nuove architetture mentali, realizzando un atteggiamento politico. Provando a sovvertire semplicemente la dittatura della necessità, in favore di una democrazia, magari della felicità.

Democracy of happiness
In 2013 Short Theatre plants another flag, conquering one more time a land with fixed economic and environmental boundaries but with a new population every year. A place that turns into a temporary residence for artists with different styles and biographies.
This year the support of European networks and cultural institutes allowed us to invite various international artists both famous and emerging. On the other hand, Short Theatre continues to promote young Italian artists and to keep an eye on those already known to the audience, always focusing on contemporary and experimental dramaturgy.
Performances, artists and companies will chart a territory and define its geography through workshops, training courses, dj sets, concerts, illustrations, videos, meetings and conversations.
Short Theatre does not intend to represent a generation or a trend, it rather tries to provide a glimpse of contemporary theatre, negotiating new and trespassable artistic and relational boundaries.
Here and now: what’s the use of a festival?
It all depends from the State. The State we live in. The state we are in. The state the State makes us live in. The State in and for which we still live in this state. Is it only a pun on words? Then we should learn to play a new game, a new way to stay here. To imagine a Neverland-like State. To found a temporary one and agree on its temporary rules. Constantly moving, staying in this State to evolve, not to stay still. Contradicting the current state, staying in this State. These thoughts can also describe the ambition of creating a festival: to transform weakness into strength in order to travel across a State and cross its borders without leaving. Creating a State where its citizens can agree upon rules and personal and artistic styles. A place where recognition does not depend on constitution, where people meet to know each other and the community – alive and legislating – evolves in order to understand. To step aside to make room. To occupy the space to multiply it. We do not intend to hope for a new Utopia. We cannot afford it. We want to stay here and build new mental structures with a political attitude. Trying to overthrow the dictatorship of necessity and found the democracy, hopefully, of happiness.
